We asked, “If you could change anything about Work It, what would it be? Here’s some of the responses and what we have have tried, can do, or will offer.
“The booking 1 hour in adv policy and the no late arrival. This has prevented me from taking a significant amount of classes. We are all busy. No gym requires such things. Too strict, too much planing required. It turns into worry and not a pleasurable experience. I think it’s worth a shot to think about this differently and see if things become better.”
We understand that our policies do not work for everyone, but please understand why we have them in place. Work It is not a gym, it’s a private boutique studio so we cannot operate like the big box gyms you may be use to. Due to the creative and unique classes that we offer, and our open level offerings, our instructors can spend an hour or more prepping and traveling in for our classes. Some classes such as pole or bellydance can require special equipment to be set up or brought in. For that reason, we need to know in advance who is coming. It wouldn’t be fair to have our instructors plan, prep, and travel, then have no one show up for class. It also wouldn’t be fair if someone sits in traffic, just shows up, and can’t get into class because it’s too full.
The late policy is for everyone’s safety and respect. It is unsafe to jump into a class without the proper warm up. It is unsafe for us to leave the door unlocked during class and not know who is walking in and out. It is a distraction and not respectful to have to stop teaching, let someone in, have them fill out paperwork/waivers/ring up water/etc. while everyone is standing around waiting for the latecomer. Since we have opened, we have always given @ 5-10 minutes to show up before class is started and we always try to wait/stall for as long as we can before starting the class (that’s why our classes always end 5-10 minutes late!).
“Be able to purchase a class package that would allow me to take multiple types of classes i.e. belly dance, stretch and weight training rather than having 2 separate packages.”
Work It has always offered the Ultimate Fitness Package which includes 5 classes from each price category for a total of 15 classes.
“I wish the longer classes (pole flow, pole fitness, and flexibility) were earlier in the evening or on the weekends – I’m sometimes hesitant to take them because they end so late at night and I’ve already had a long work day.”
For years, Pole Flow was offered on Sunday early evenings and Pole Fitness was offered on Sunday mornings. Due to lack of attendance, we changed the days and times to accommodate more people’s schedules.
“I would love more dance classes.”
Work It offers a variety of dance classes such as bellydance (Tuesday/Saturdays), burlesque (Tuesdays), Pole Flow (pole choreography-Thursdays), Fusion Dance Fitness (Thursdays), and Sensual Movements (Fridays). The rest of the fitness classes are based in dance and incorporate strength training and flexibility. We are always open for instructor recommendations so feel free to have your dance instructor friends reach out to us about possible classes.
“…maybe if one of the tone and tighten classes throughout the week was really Barre focused rather than being a complete workout with weights and yoga and no all sorts of toning and tightening mixed in (like with a Porta Barre that we could bring out or maybe just focus on working out using the pole for balance or resistance like you would with Barre but vertical).”
Tone and Tighten is a fitness class that I created. Although there is a ballet and barre influence within that class, it is not meant to be a traditional Barre workout. Tone and Tighten was developed from my extensive dance training, my experience with physical therapy, and by expertise in fitness. It is designed to give you a total body workout that is gentle on the joints. If you have any traditional barre instructors that you would like to have teach for us, feel free to have them reach out to us for a conversation.
“More exotic pole”
We tried. We added in a second Sensual Movements class (about 2 months ago) on Saturdays at 5pm, but the attendance has been very low and will most likely be changed to a different class offering in the near future.
“I would like more pole trick classes”
You will learn new pole tricks in every pole class we have. Pole Fitness, Open Pole, Pole 1, Pole Tricks, and Pole Flow all incorporate the learning of pole tricks.
“I would love a Tone & Tighten or Burlesque class on a Saturday or Sunday at around 11:00 or 11:30 am. I just can’t make it to the early 8:45 am class.”
I’m not a morning person either, so I get it. It would be great if we could find a way to accommodate everyone’s schedules but unfortunately, it’s just not possible. What works for you, may not work for many others. Bellydance, Pole Tricks, and Intro to Pole are all happening during those days/times and are usually quite popular. Hopefully you enjoy the classes enough that it will be incentive enough to join me on a Saturday morning!
“Add a 10% military/veteran military spouse w/dependent ID”.
Work It discounts our 5-10 class packages as a thank you for your commitment. We would be more than happy to offer you a 10% military discount, but it would be off of the full retail price. We find it’s more cost saving to purchase our already discounted classes.
“More classes after 6pm” “More classes offered later on. ”
The majority of our classes take place after 6:30pm. Only Open Pole on Wednesday, and a few classes on the weekend are offered before 6pm.
